A Message from Ashley Barrios, 2016 Admiral
Born and raised on the West bank of New Orleans, Lafourche parish was always close to my heart. My grandparents were both born and raised in Lockport and after hurricane Katrina, I knew there was no other place I would rather reside. Being raised as one of two daughters, my father had no choice but to bring one of us fishing on his days off (mom’s rule) so there I began my love of fishing. Over the past 10 years my friendships and business relationships have grown in Lafourche Parish and this appointment is a great honor for me. The Golden Meadow- Fourchon Tarpon Rodeo is all about family, friends and business now that the Lafourche Chamber Foundation has become an integral part of the rodeo. I wish all of you the best of luck (women, men and children) and the best of weather for this event.
Great fishing, Great weather, Great Times and Great memories are what life is all about!
Best of Luck to all of you …..And may the best man (or Woman) win!
Past Admirals of the Rodeo
Like many other great ideas throughout history, the Golden Meadow-Fourchon International Tarpon Rodeo was conceived in a conversation over an afternoon drink in a bar. It was 1948, and the group of men in Crip’s Bar in Golden Meadow was discussing the possibility of a tarpon tournament. Perhaps they didn't have any idea of what they were creating, but in the space of over a quarter of a century, the Golden Meadow-Fourchon International Tarpon Rodeo, in the words of a Baton Rouge outdoor writer, "is becoming one of the prestigious rodeos in the South."
